I hope students had a relaxing long weekend! I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. Last week was a short week and it went by so quickly! I hope you were able to view the video of our Halloween festivities. I have just a few short notes about last week...
Sharing is now in full swing. We will carry on with our sharing schedule as published, with the Monday people sharing on an alternate day this week since we did not have school today. I am amazed by how quickly students have learned this routine. They are doing well with actively listening to one another and asking pertinent questions. Hooray!
I tried to connect Halloween to many of our learning activities last week. Below, students are pictured measuring with candy corn. Measuring using non-standard units of measure is an upcoming math focus, so we got some early practice with a seasonal treat. Students also created awesome collage illustrations for the poem/song "Five Little Pumpkins." I'm excited to share some of the finished products! Understanding the connection between illustrations/visuals and the text is a Common Core State Standard, so creating illustrations to match the text wasn't just fun--it also supported student understanding of this important standard.
Many students are struggling to learn the sight words. Please help your child by reviewing them at home with flash cards or games like Memory/Concentration. We practice them a lot at school, but continued practice is important. Last week's new words were look and at. This week's new words are like and up. We have practiced letters A-L, and this week's new letters are M and N.
Have a great week, and be on the lookout for mid-week updates!

Many important notes were sent home last week, and I found at least two sets on the classroom floor after everyone left. Please let me know if you did not receive this set of notes, and I will sent them again. The revised letter/sight word calendar and November classroom calendar were included, as well as a November lunch menu. |
It's hard to get a picture with everyone looking, but this one comes close. I hope you had a fun and safe Halloween!
